Members of the SUCI(C) demonstrated before the West Bengal Assembly today demanding punishment for Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen for allegedly defrauding thousands of investors.

The SUCI(C)agitators demonstrated in the prohibitory order bound area carrying posters reading 'We demand punishment for scamster Sudipta Sen and others' and 'Give compensation to lakhs of depositors who lost everything.'

The demonstration took place when the House was debating the new West Bengal Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishment Bill, 2013.

Altogether 159 SUCI(C) workers, including 42 women, were arrested after the demonstrators were dispersed, police sources said.

The SUCI(C) party had allied with the ruling Trinamool Congress to contest the last Assembly elections.
