Sudha Ragunathan honoured

: Popular vocalist Sudha Ragunathan was today presented the "Sangita Kalanidhi" award of the Music Academy here.

Presenting the award at the annual Sadas at the academy, Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan said proficiency in various languages would stand in good stead carnatic musicians taking the art as a profession.

"In order to become proficient in Carnatic music it would be useful to be proficient in (languages like) Tamil, Telugu Sanskrit, Kannada and Malayalam," he said at the annual "SADAS" at The Music Academy here.

Observing that a performer must be "deeply" conscious of his "strengths" and "weaknesses", he said, "the effect of a performance should be such as to keep the listeners spell-bound, making them stay on till the very end, thirsting for more. That is the secret of artistry".
 

He also presented "Sangita Kala Acharya" titles to Vidwan D Pasupathy and Kalyani Sharma, the "TTK Award" to 'Thanjavur' Ramamoorthy and Prapancham Sitaraman, the "Musicologist Award" to Dr R S Jayalakshmi.
