Sugar prices strengthened by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on pick up in buying by bulk consumers and retailers ahead of the new month amid restricted supplies by millers.
Marketmen said apart from restricted supplies from mills, a spurt in demand from stockists and bulk consumers ahead of new month, mainly lifted sweetener prices notably higher.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices climbed up by Rs 100 to settle the day at Rs 3,850-3,950 and Rs 3,840-3,940 compared with yesterday's close of Rs 3,760-3,850 and Rs 3,750-3,840 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Mawana, Kinnoni, Asmoli, Khatuli and Dhampur traded higher by Rs 100 each at Rs 3,600, Rs 3,675, Rs 3,640, Rs 3,650 and Rs 3,600 per quintal, respectively.
Sugar Dorala, Dhanora, Simbholi, Sakoti, Chandpur and Modinagar also traded higher by Rs 90 each to Rs 3,610, Rs 3,590, Rs 3,640, Rs 3,580, Rs 3,570 and Rs 3,590 per quintal, respectively.
Prices of all other varieties also went up by Rs 70 per quintal.
