Sugar prices spurted by up to Rs 80 a quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today mainly supported by paucity of stocks following tight supplies from mills amid increased demand from bulk consumers.
Marketmen attributed rise in sweetener prices to restricted supplies from mills against pick up in demand form bulk consumers such as ice-cream and soft-drink makers.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices climbed shot up Rs 60 each to conclude at Rs 3,980-4,080 and Rs 3,970-4,070 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar simbholi spurted by Rs 80 to Rs 3,760, while Mawana, Dorala, Thanabhavan, Khatuli and Sakoti hardened by Rs 70 each to Rs 3,720, Rs 3,710, Rs 3,690, Rs 3,750 and Rs 3,670 per quintal.
