Sugar climbs on upsurge in demand

Sugar prices firmed up at the wholesale sugar market in the national capital today on the back of strong demand from retailers as well as bulk consumers.

Traders attributed rise in sugar prices to pick up in demand from retailers and bulk consumers.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 flared up to Rs 3,150-3,350 and Rs 3,140-3,340 from previous levels of Rs 3,050-3,260 and Rs 3,040-3,250 per quintal, respectively.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 followed suit and edged up to Rs 2,920-3,200 and Rs 2,810-3,060 from previous close of Rs 2,820-3,070 and Rs 2,810-3,060 per quintal, respectively.

In the millgate section, Mawana, Kinnoni, Asmoli, Dorala and Budhana were also quoted higher at Rs 3,090, Rs 3,200, Rs 3,200, Rs 3,085 and Rs 3,085 instead of Rs 2,970, Rs 3,070, Rs 3,000, Rs 2,970 and Rs 2,970 per quintal, respectively.
