Sugar drops on poor demand amid supply pressure

Sugar prices dropped at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to subdued demand from traders and retail consumers amid sustained selling by millers.

Small sugar (S-30) fell sharply by Rs 33 to finish at Rs 3,072/3,162 per quintal from Thursday's closing level of Rs 3,072/3,195.

Medium sugar (M-30) also moved down by Rs 2/10 to settle at Rs 3,200/3,330 per quintal compared to Rs 3,202/3340 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,072/3,162 (Rs 3,072/3,195).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,200/3,330 (Rs 3,202/3,340).
