Sugar prices were down 0.58 per cent to Rs 2,415 per quintal in futures trade today as participants lightened positions, triggered by higher supplies from mills at spot market amid subdued demand.

At National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October month declined by Rs 14, or 0.58 per cent to Rs 2,415 per quintal with an open interest of 31,110 lots.

In a similar fashion, the sweetener for delivery in December contracts traded lower by Rs 13, or 0.53 per cent to Rs 2,447 per quintal in 41,500 lots.

Analysts said apart from ample stocks position on higher supplies from millers in the physical market against sluggish demand from retailers and bulk consumers mainly weighed on sweetener prices at futures trade.
