Sugar prices fell by 0.28 per cent to Rs 2,821 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions amid ample supplies from millers in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in far-month May declined by Rs 8, or 0.28 per cent to Rs 2,821 per quintal with an open interest of 7,360 lots.
Likewise, the sweetner for delivery in March contracts traded lower by Rs 6, or 0.22 per cent to Rs 2,735 per quintal in 21,070 lots.
Market analysts attributed the fall in sugar prices at futures trade to adequate stocks due to higher supplies from millers against low demand from bulk consumers.
