Sugar prices fell 0.83 per cent to Rs 3,839 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators trimmed their positions amid lower demand at the spot market against adequate stocks position.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in March month drifted lower by Rs 32, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 3,839 per quintal with an open interest of 5,990 lots.

Analysts said trimming of positions by traders due to muted demand from bulk consumers against ample stocks position mainly influenced sugar prices at futures trade.
