Sugar prices were down over 1% to Rs 2,230 per quintal in futures trade today, triggered by ample stock in the markets on persistent supplies from mills.
At National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October fell Rs 23, or 1.02% to Rs 2,230 per quintal with an open interest of 34,730 lots.
Also, the sweetener for delivery in July contracts declined by Rs 21, or 0.96% to Rs 2,170 per quintal in 43,400 lots.
Analysts said offloading of positions by speculators amid ample stock in the physical market on increased supplies from mills, and higher output estimates, mainly kept pressure on sugar prices at futures trade.
