Sugar prices were up by 0.08 per cent to Rs 3,734 per quintal in futures trade today as traders indulged in creating fresh position after pick-up in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October edged higher by Rs 3, or 0.08 per cent to Rs 3,734 per quintal with an open interest of 25,260 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in December traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 3,755 per quintal in 13,420 lots.

Analysts attributed the marginal rise in sugar futures to fresh positions created by participants following uptick in demand from bulk consumers as well as retailers in the spot market.
