Sugar prices drifted lower by 0.42 per cent to Rs 3,569 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators booked profits at prevailing levels amid increased supplies from mills at spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in July month fell by Rs 15, or 0.42 per cent to Rs 3,569 per quintal with an open interest of 47,170 lots.

Likewise, the sweetener for delivery in October contracts shed Rs 8, or 0.22 per cent to Rs 3,663 per quintal in 6,070 lots.

Analysts attributed the slide in sweetener prices at futures trade to profit-booking by traders at existing levels.
