Sugar down 1.4% on profit-bookings

Analysts attributed the fall in sugar futures to profit- bookings by speculators at prevailing higher levels

Sugar prices fell by 1.41% to Rs 3,151 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators indulged in booking-profits at prevailing higher levels.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in April month fell by Rs 45, or 1.41% to Rs 3151 per quintal with an open interest of 19,200 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery May lost Rs 46, or 1.41% to Rs 3207 per quintal in 51,260 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in sugar futures to profit- bookings by speculators at prevailing higher levels but lower output estimates capped the losses.
