Sugar prices traded marginally higher by 0.37 per cent to Rs 2,744 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions amidst improved demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in March rose by Rs 10, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 2,744 per quintal with an open interest of 20,430 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in May edged higher by Rs 10, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 2,840 per quintal in 5,770 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators due to improved demand in the spot market mainly led to the rise in sugar prices at futures trade.
