Sugar prices moved up by 0.38 per cent to Rs 3,658 per quintal in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, supported by pick-up in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in July rose by Rs 14, or 0.38 per cent to Rs 3,658 per quintal with an open interest of 38,120 lots.

On similar lines, the sweetener for delivery in far-month October gained Rs 14, or 0.37 per cent to Rs 3,784 per quintal in 10,820 lots.

Analysts said position built up by traders due to pick-up in demand from bulk consumers in the spot market, mainly attributed the rise in sugar prices at futures trade.
