Sugar prices were up by 0.41 per cent to Rs 3,920 per quintal in futures market today as speculators raised their bets amid pick up in demand at the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in March rose by Rs 16, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 3,920 per quintal, with an open interest of 5,670 lots.

Market analysts said widening of positions by traders on the back of surging demand from bulk consumers as well as retailers at the spot markets mainly attributed the rise in sugar prices at futures trade.
