Sugar up 0.4% as demand picks up

Analysts said the rise in sugar prices was mostly attributed to rising demand in the physical markets but ample supply in the market, capped the gains

Sugar prices rose by Rs 13 to Rs 2,815 per quintal in futures trade today mostly supported by rising demand in the spot markets.

However, ample supplies in the physical market restricted the gains,

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in January rose by Rs 13, or 0.46% to Rs 2,815 per quintal with an open interest of 14,910 lots.

Likewise, the sweetener for delivery in February moved up by Rs 13, or 0.47% to Rs 2756 per quintal in 18,890 lots.

Analysts said the rise in sugar prices was mostly attributed to rising demand in the physical markets but ample supply in the market, capped the gains.
