Sugar futures rise on rising demand

Sugar prices edged up further by 0.16 per cent to Rs 3,759 per quintal in futures market today as participants engaged in enlarging their positions, tracking a firm trend at spot market on strong demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in far-month October advanced by Rs 6 or 0.16 per cent to Rs 3,759 per quintal with an open interest of 9,090 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in July contracts edged up by Rs 2 or 0.05 per cent to Rs 3,663 per quintal in 38,080 lots.

Analysts said increasing of positions by traders amid pick up in demand from bulk consumer in the spot market, mainly kept sugar prices higher at futures trade.
