Sugar prices fell 0.31 per cent to Rs 3,261 per quintal in futures trading today as traders lightened positions, triggered by adequate stocks at the spot market on higher supplies from mills.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in far-month May moved down by Rs 10, or 0.31 per cent to Rs 3,261 per quintal with an open interest of 31,730 lots.
Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in March contracts traded lower by Rs 9, or 0.28 per cent, to Rs 3,170 per quintal in 1,12,190 lots.
Analysts said trimming of positions by participants driven by sufficient stocks on higher supplies from mills in the physical market against lower demand, mainly led to decline in sugar prices at futures trade.
