Sugar prices eased by 0.36 per cent to Rs 2,493 per quintal in futures trade today as traders reduced positions, triggered by adequate stocks at the spot market on higher supplies from mills.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October fell by Rs 9, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 2,493 per quintal with an open interest of 30,800 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in far-month December shed Rs 6, or 0.24 per cent, at Rs 2,499 per quintal in 49,530 lots.

Analysts said offloading of positions by participants, driven by ample stocks position in the physical market on higher supplies from mills, mainly kept pressure on sugar prices at futures trade.
