Sugar prices fell 0.29 per cent to Rs 2,409 per quintal in futures trade today as participants trimmed positions, driven by ample stocks on higher supplies from mills at spot market amid sluggish demand.
At National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October eased by Rs 7, or 0.29 per cent to Rs 2,409 per quintal with an open interest of 29,810 lots.
Likewise, the sweetener for delivery in December contracts shed Rs 3, or 0.12 per cent to Rs 2,433 per quintal in 43,580 lots.
Analysts said ample stocks following higher supplies from millers in the physical market against low demand from retailers and bulk consumers mainly weighed on sweetener prices at futures trade.
