Sugar prices climb on rising demand, tight supply

Sugar prices flared up by Rs 80 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital due to strong demand amid thin supply from mills.

Market players said besides tight arrivals from mills, brisk demand from stockist, retailers and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream maker, largely enthused sweetener prices.

In addition, ongoing wedding season demand supported the upside in sugar prices, they added.

In price section, sugar ready M-30 and S-30 climbed by Rs 50 each to finish at Rs 2,850-3,050 and Rs 2,840-3,040 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also settled higher by same margin of Rs 50 each at Rs 2,660-2,890 and Rs 2,650-2,870 per quintal.
 

In the millgate section, sugar Dhanora jumped by Rs 80 at Rs 2,720, followed by Mawana by Rs 70 at Rs 2,780 and Dorala by Rs 65 at Rs 2,775 per quintal.

Sugar Budhana, Asmoli and Thanabhavan shot up by Rs 60 each at Rs 2,775, Rs 2,860 and Rs 2,765, while Kinnoni and Simbholi rose by Rs 50 each at Rs 2,840 and Rs 2,880 per quintal.

Sugar retail markets - Rs 28.00-35.00 per kg.

Sugar ready: M-30 Rs 2,850-3,050, S-30 Rs 2,840-3,040.

Mill delivery: M-30 Rs 2,660-2,890, S-30 Rs 2,650-2,880.

Sugar millgate (including duty): Mawana New Rs 2,780, Kinnoni Rs 2,880, Asmoli Rs 2,860, Dorala Rs 2,775, Budhana new Rs 2,775, Thanabhavan New Rs 2,765, Dhanora Rs 2,720, Simbholi New Rs 2,880, Khatuli Rs 2,850, Dhampur New 2,740, Ramala Rs 2,670, Anupshaher Rs 2,670, Baghpat Rs 2,680, Morna Rs 2,680, Sakoti Rs 2,680, Chandpur Rs 2,730, Nazibabad Rs 2,670 and Malakpur New Rs 2,750.
