Sugar prices rise on good demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar rose at the Vashi Wholesale market here today following heavy offtake by stockists as well as strong upcountry enquiries amid restricted arrivals.

Small sugar (S-30) shot-up by Rs 2/20 per quintal to Rs 2,502/2,602 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 2,500/2,582.

Medium sugar (M-30) climbed by Rs 2/10 per quintal to Rs 2,602/2,722 as against Rs 2,600/2,712 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,502/2,602 (Rs 2,500/2,582).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,602/2,722 (Rs 2,600/2,712).
