Sugar prices slide on ample supply, fall in demand

Sugar prices drifted by Rs 80 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today, largely dragged down by persistent supplies from mills amid slackened demand.

Marketmen said fall in demand from bulk consumers following end of festive season amid adequate stocks, mainly weighed on sweetener prices.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices were down by Rs 80 each to settle at Rs 2,760-3,000 and Rs 2,750-2,990 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also fell by Rs 45 each to close the day at Rs 2,605-2,860 and Rs 2,595-2,850 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Dhanora dropped by Rs 60 at
 

Rs 2,660, while Dhampur lost Rs 45 at Rs 2,605 per quintal.

Sugar Ramala, Baghpat, Anupshaher, Morna and Nazibabad lost Rs 40 each at Rs 2,650, Rs 2,660, Rs 2,630, Rs 2,660 and Rs 2,640, while Asmoli eased by Rs 30 at Rs 2,830 per quintal.

Sugar retail markets - Rs 28.00-34.00 per kg.

Sugar ready: M-30 Rs 2,760-3,000, S-30 Rs 2,750-2,990.
