Sugar prices shot up by Rs 70 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on the back of pick up in buying by stockists and bulk consumers amid thin supplies from mills.
Marketmen said fall in supplies from mills against brisk demand from stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers, mainly described the uptrend in sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices quoted higher by Rs 50 each to end the day at Rs 4,050-4,150 and Rs 4,040-4,140 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Morna, Nazibabad and Nanota spurted by Rs 70 each to Rs 3,670, Rs 3,660 and Rs 3,670, while Ramala and Anupshaher hardened by Rs 65 each to Rs 3,660 and Rs 3,655 per quintal.
Sugar Dhanora and Shamli gained Rs 60 each to Rs 3,770 and Rs 3,730, while Simbholi, Sakoti, Khatuli and Chandpur rose by Rs 50 each to Rs 3,770, Rs 3,720, Rs 3,770 and Rs 3,720 per quintal, respectively.
