Sugar prices bounced by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on heavy buying by stockists and bulk consumers amid thin supplies from mills ahead of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Marketmen said brisk buying by stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers and thin supplies ahead of rollout of of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on July 1, mainly led to the rise in sweetener prices.
Sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices spurted by Rs 100 each to end the day at Rs 3,580-3,740 and Rs 3,570-3,730 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni, Simbholi, Sakoti, Khatuli and Chandpur jumped by Rs 100 each to finish at Rs 3,740, Rs 3,720, Rs 3,670, Rs 3,725 and Rs 3,670, while Asmoli, Dorala, Dhampur and Shamli shot up by Rs 90 each to Rs 3,710, Rs 3,690, Rs 3,650 and Rs 3,670 per quintal, respectively.
Sugar Budhana, Thanabhavan and Dhanora hardened by Rs 85 each to Rs 3,690, Rs 3,685 and Rs 3,710, while Anupshaher and Nazibabad rose by Rs 65 each to both settles at Rs 3,590 each per quintal.
