Sugar prices zoom on robust demand, thin supply

Powered by strong demand from bulk consumers and retailers, sugar prices recorded a steep rise of up to Rs 230 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today.

Marketmen said a spurt in demand from stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers amid tight supply from mills, lifted sweetener prices notably.

Besides, the government had taken a decision to double import duty to 100 per cent from 50 per cent to curb falling sweetener prices.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices shot up by Rs 230 each to end the day at Rs 3,450-3,680 and Rs 3,440-3,670 per quintal.
 

Likewise, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices shot up by Rs 215 to finish the day at Rs 3,225-3,380 and Rs 3,215-3,370 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Dhanora and Kinnoni climbed up by Rs 150 each to Rs 3,350 and Rs 3,380, Simbholi flared up by Rs 145 to Rs 3,330 per quintal.

Sugar Sakoti and Shamli too rallied by Rs 140 each to Rs 3,235 and Rs 3,240, while Khatuli and Dhampur rose by Rs 135 each to Rs 3,350 and Rs 3,220 per quintal.

Sugar retail markets - Rs 34.00-38.00 per kg.

Sugar ready: M-30 Rs 3,450-3,680, S-30 Rs 3,440-3,670.

Mill delivery: M-30 Rs 3,225-3,380, S-30 Rs 3,215-3,370.

Sugar millgate (including duty): Mawana Rs 3,250, Kinnoni Rs 3,380, Asmoli Rs 3,320, Dorala Rs 3,250, Budhana Rs 3,240, Thanabhavan Rs 3,235, Dhanora Rs 3,350, Simbholi Rs 3,330, Khatuli Rs 3,350, Dhampur Rs 3,220, Sakoti 3,235, Modinagar 3,220, Shamli 3240, Ramala Rs 3,025, Anupshaher Rs 3,030, Baghpat Rs 3,040, Morna Rs 3,025, Chandpur Rs 3,075, Nazibabad Rs 3,015 and Nanota 3,025.
