Sugar recovers on moderate demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar -- medium and small -- rose at the Vashi wholesale market here today on moderate demand from stockists and bulk consumers on the back of ensuing festival season.

Small sugar (S-30) spurted by Rs 4/10 per quintal to Rs 2,970/3,046 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 2,960/3,042.

Medium sugar (M-30) moved up by Rs 4 per quintal to Rs 3,050/3,225 as compared to Rs 3,050/3,221 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,970/3,046 (Rs 2,960/3,042).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,050/3,225 (Rs 3,050/3,221).
