Sugar shot-up on heavy demand

"Deficient monsoon in sugar producing belts has resulted increased speculative activity in sugar market, traders said.

Medium sugar (M-30) zoomed by Rs 161/160 per quintal to Rs 3,692/3,811 from last Wednesday's closing level of Rs 3,531/3,651.

Small sugar (S-30) surged by Rs 120/119 per quintal to Rs 3,611/3,691 as against Rs 3,491/3,572 previously.

Sugar market was closed yesterday for "RAKSHA BANDHAN".

The following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,611/3,691 (Rs 3,491/3,572).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,692/3,811 (Rs 3,531/3,651).
