Sugar prices continued to slide at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to lack of demand from stockists and bulk consumers.

Besides sluggish demand, adequate stocks position as well as expectations of higher output put pressure on sugar prices.

Small sugar (S-30) drifted by Rs 30/20 to end at Rs 2,512/2,642 per quintal from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 2,542/2,662.

Medium sugar (M-30) also declined by Rs 18/10 to settle at Rs 2,612/2,842 as against Rs 2,630/2,852 previously.

The sugar market was closed yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,612/2,842 (Rs 2,630/2,852).
