Sugar strengthens on persistent demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar strengthened at the Vashi wholesale market here today following persistent demand from stockists and bulk consumers amidst restricted supply from producing regions.

Small sugar (S-30) gained further by Rs 20/42 per quintal to Rs 3,072/3,182 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 3,052/3,140.

Medium sugar (M-30) also rose by Rs 10/62 per quintal to Rs 3,170/3,402 as compared to Rs 3,160/3,340 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,072/3,182 (Rs 3,052/3,140).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,170/3,402 (Rs 3,160/3,340).
