Sugar surges on high demand, festive offtake

Prices of both varieties of sugar surged at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to rising demand from stockists and retailers amidst ensuing festivities offtake.

Small sugar (M-30) climbed by Rs 12/10 per quintal to Rs 3,092/3,172 from Thursday's level of Rs 3,080/3,162.

Medium sugar (M-30) also moved up by Rs 14/4 per quintal to 3,166/3,300 as compared to Rs 3,152/3,296.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,092/3,172 (Rs 3,080/3,162).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,166/3,300 (Rs 3,152/3,296).
