Sugar surges on rising demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar surged further at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to rising demand from stockists and retailers amid ensuing festivities.

Small sugar (S-30) spurted by Rs 49 per quintal to Rs 2,702/2,881 from Monday's closing level of Rs 2,702/2,832.

Medium sugar (M-30) climbed by Rs 25 per quintal to Rs 2,820/2,996 as compared to Rs 2,820/2,971 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,702/2,881 (Rs 2,702/2,832).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,820/2,996 (Rs 2,820/2,971).
