Sugarcane crops were allegedly burnt in Mawi village of Shamli district by a group of farmers from Haryana who are staking claim on the land, following which tension prevailed on the UP-Haryana border, police said today.
"We have asked police to register a case against those who were responsible for burning the cops and damaging the property. Security has been tightened and police has been deployed on the border after the incident," Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Kairana, Suresh Kumar Mishra said.
"Officials of the two states have decided to hold a meeting today at Karnal (Haryana) to resolve the boundary dispute that often results in clashes on the border," he added.

The UP farmers informed the district authorities about the incident alleging that their cottages were also burnt by the accused who opened firing at them.
