"The parties which have never had anything to do with farmers and farming are today claiming themselves to be the saviours of farmers and making wrong allegations against the government that crushing season has not yet started," SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said in a statement here.
The crushing has started in 100 of the 125 sugar mills of the state, while the remaining mills would also start the process soon, Chaudhary said.
He said so far 26 lakh quintals of sugar has already been produced in the state crushing 319 lakh qunitals of cane.
The SP spokesman said that the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is committed to ensure good price of their produce to sugarcane growers for which it would take a decision soon.
The opposition has been attacking the government for delay in announcing support price alleging that because of it the crushing season, which ought to have started in October, has not taken off.
