One person attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a Metro train at Esplanade station here, affecting services for around 40 minutes.

The incident happened at around 3.31 PM when an alert driver of a Dum Dum-bound train applied breaks seeing one man jumping into the tracks from the platform, police said.

Power connection in the third line of the track was disconnected quickly and RPF personnel lifted the man and took him to SSKM Hospital.

Following this, Metro services to and from Maidan to Esplanade stations were stopped, Kolkata Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said.

"The incident happened at 3.31 PM and normal services were resumed at 4.09PM. During this period we were operating trains in a truncated manner," Banerjee said.
