A teenaged girl, who tried to kill herself today by jumping in front of an approaching Metro train at Jatin Das Park station in the city, was saved by an alert motorman, officials said.
The motorman of the Kavi Subhash station-bound train applied emergency break as soon as he sighted the young girl on the tracks. The prompt on-duty station staff took her to the Chittaranjan Hospital where doctors declared her to be out of danger.
Normal Metro services, which came to a halt, resumed a few minutes after the suicide attempt at around 9:23 am, officials said.
This was the 256th attempt at suicide in the popular underground train service since 1988, out of which 128 lives were saved, they said.

The quick response of the Metro staff of late was ascribed to heightened vigilance through CCTVs from stations as well as from the security control room in the Metro Rail Bhavan.
Besides, the Special Task Force, introduced recently, has also been directed to keep a close watch, the officials said.
A lady was rescued at Jatin Das Park and another persons at Shyambazar Metro station in the previous two attempts, the officials said.
