Security officials say suicide bombers hit a Shiite religious building and a military checkpoint in a Shiite-majority neighborhood of Baghdad, killing 15 people.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks today in Baghdad's Shula district. Such bombings are frequently blamed on the Islamic State group.

In one attack, a bomber detonated an explosive belt among people leaving a Husseiniya, or a Shiite place of worship, killing 10 and wounding 34, the security and medical officials told The Associated Press.

Another bomber hit the checkpoint at the entrance to Shula, killing five people three of them soldiers and wounding 14.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the press.
