An application has been filed in a local civil court seeking to hold elections to the state unit of the hockey association and conduct it under the supervision of a neutral observer.

The XIII Assistant City Civil Court, admitting the suit filed by the Ramanathapuram District Hockey Association, has ordered issue of notice to the Tamil Nadu hockey unit which is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Olympic Association.

It was submitted that instead of holding the mandatory 24 inter-district tournaments during the last four years, the state forum had held only four tournaments.

The suit said the general body meeting convened on March 31, 2012 for the purpose of announcing elections was called off summarily on the ground that the Hockey India observer had not come.

Now, a similar meeting is planned for August 4 at Tiruchirappallli. The petitioner-association said this time as well the office-bearers might come out with some excuses not to conduct the poll involving 29 district associations.

The suit wanted a fair and just election, to be observed by a person nominated by the courts.
