Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today visited the family of local SAD leader Mukhjit Singh who was earlier this week shot dead by police after being mistaken for a gangster.

Badal expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the family and assured them of adequate police security as also an ex-gratia grant as per government rules.

He also assured the bereaved family about action against those responsible following the conclusion of an inquiry, which he said would be done in a time-bound manner.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh said that Badal has ordered immediate transfer of all the eight police personnel involved in the incident, including the ASI and SI, out of Amritsar district till the time the SIT inquiry was on.

Aulakh said that Badal also promised a government job to one of the family members of the deceased subject to the fulfilment of eligibility rules.

A Punjab police team allegedly shot dead the 38-year-old Mukhjit, a SAD Youth activist, in what it has said was a case of mistaken identity.
