Dismissing allegations against Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the drug racket, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the furore was Congress' tactic to divert attention from the internal disorder it was facing in the state.
Responding to media-persons on the allegations made by alleged drug racket kingpin on Majithia's involvement, Sukhbir said, "Eradication of drugs is our top priority as we are committed to end this menace in the state."
As he was pressed with queries on the matter, the deputy Chief Minister asked whether charges against investigation agencies and influential politicians made by a criminal after arrest could "be construed as authentic".
"If any criminal or mentally imbalanced person accused Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi or Congress president Sonia Gandhi of being involved in criminal activities, will Punjab Congress demand a probe from CBI or any other central agency?" he asked.
Jagdish Singh Bhola, a dismissed cop and former wrestler, yesterday alleged that Majithia was involved in the drug trade, causing a political storm in the state.
However, Majithia trashed the allegations even as opposition Congress trained guns on him seeking his arrest and dismissal from the cabinet and a CBI probe into the drug case.
