Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the party owed victory in successive elections to the hard work and determination of its workers.

While giving a clarion call for a "united fight to decimate" the Congress politically, he admired the "untiring and united efforts" of the workers.

"I have no magic wand to win these elections as being projected by media, but I could achieve these successive victories just because of untiring and united efforts of my grassroots level workers, who remained in electoral battle for months leaving behind their families," he said during the General House Meeting of the SAD.

Warning against complacency after the wins, he said they had a greater challenge to take the message of development to the grassroots level besides garnering feedback on what the masses needed so that policies could be molded accordingly.

He was strengthening the organisational setup of the party and expanding it by new membership drives, besides crafting a strategy to have a direct rapport with workers at the lowest level of the hierarchy.

Badal announced the beginning of the process of organisational elections in the 93-year-old party and said the SAD had a comprehensive, transparent and hi-tech membership drive. All workers have been told to fan out in villages to increase the party's base.

He cautioned against fake membership and said the organisational setup would be announced in the first week of June.
