Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today dedicated 108 'Saanjh Kendras' to the public with the aim to change the perception of police by delivering services in a time bound manner.

Inaugurating one such 'Saanjh Kendra' at Model Town here, Sukhbir reiterated his commitment to change public perceptions of functioning of the police department, and said the centres would provide various police-related services to the public within a prescribed time frame.

"When I assumed office as the state Home Minister, the people were scared to go to police stations and I have decided to change the perception of police with administrative reforms," he said.

Sukhbir said through the kendras 27 police-related services, of which 22 are under the Right to Service Act, would be delivered.

He claimed the Centre and the Pakistan government were to follow the model. "A team from Pakistan is coming for details of the concept and functioning of these kendras, and the Centre has decided to make it a part of planning," he said.

Promising a paperless administration within a year, the Deputy Chief Minister said the process of online services delivery had begun in Mansa and Mohali.

Speaking on the issue of corruption on the role of Lokpal, Sukhbir said, "I think this institution alone will not be able to wipe it out and we have to computerise the whole system (for more transparency)."

"Corruption takes place when the common man comes into the contact of government officials, but if we can provide all services online then it will help minimise corruption," he said.
