Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today slammed Congress leader Amarinder Singh for his allegations against Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal over Operation Bluestar in 1984.
A day after Amarinder alleged that the Chief Minister had asked the then Union Government to go for military action at the Golden Temple in 1984, Sukhbir asked why Congress had put him behind bars for 17 years, if the Chief Minister had compromised with Congress on the operation.
The Deputy Chief Minister dismissed Amarinder's allegations, saying he was trying to regain the leadership in Punjab Congress by playing games to attract the attention of its vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Calling Amarinder the "biggest liar", Sukhbir asked why he had not uttered "any word about the whole incident in the last 30 years".
Earlier, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal also hit out at the Congress leader, saying he had "not only eroded the credibility of Congress but also vitiated the political atmosphere" in the state with his "die-hard habit of vendetta".
Attacking Congress-led UPA government, Sukhbir said the railway budget was the last one presented by the present government as people would vote them out of power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
On the the announcement of SAD-BJP candidates for the polls, he said SAD would announce them after the EC declared the poll dates.
When asked about the reported alliance of People's Party of Punjab (PPP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, he said, "Zero plus zero will always remain zero as both these parties have no effect in Punjab, and even if they come together, it would not affect the prospect of SAD-BJP."
Sukhbir called upon Akali Dal leaders to to shun differences to "eliminate the anti-Punjab forces" in the Lok Sabha elections.
