Continuing its war of words with NCP MP Supriya Sule, the BJP today claimed that there was a "succession battle" going on in the Sharad Pawar-led party and Sule's recent attacks on the Maharashtra chief minister were only an "attempt to establish her worth" in the party.
"Supriya Sule should stop using Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for establishing her leadership in the NCP. The recent attacks are nothing but a ploy to make herself eligible as a successor (to her father Sharad Pawar in NCP)," BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said.
"NCP is witnessing a closely fought proxy war for succession. Instead of attacking the chief minister, Sule should have directly attacked her competitors in her party," he said.

At a recent meeting of NCP workers in Pune, Sule had said Fadnavis was "unable to handle the responsibility" of the chief minister's post and was "short-tempered".
Fadnavis hit back two days ago, saying he had the opposition's 'kundli' (horoscopes) ready and would unleash them at the "right time".
In a counter, Sule had said Fadnavis was speaking the "language of revenge".
"I too have seen power and it will not scare me," she had said at Nandurbar.
