In a relief to Samajwadi Party MLA Arun Verma facing allegations of gang rape in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh Police today said his mobile phone's location on the day of crime was traced in the state capital.

"The location of MLA's mobile phone on September 17/18 when the incident took place was in Lucknow. The probe is on in the matter," IG Law and Order R K Vishwakarma told reporters in reply to a question.

On November 20, a man approached a court for registering FIR against the MLA alleging that his 18-year-old daughter was raped by Verma and others on September 18 in Sultanpur.

The MLA has denied the allegation, saying it is a "political conspiracy" to malign his image.

He had claimed that on the day the alleged crime took place he was in Lucknow.

"On that day I was in Lucknow to attend proceeding of Vidhan Sabha...This can be verified from assembly records and CCTV footages," he had claimed.
