Sundaran, Usha bag gold in Sr National Weightlifting C'ships

Mohana Sundaran of Railways bagged the gold in 56kg Men's category, while Andhra Pradesh's B Usha won the yellow metal in 48kg Women's section in the Senior National Weightlifting Championships, which started at the Cambay Golf Resorts here today.

There are a total of 244 participants in the competition, besides 100 team officials and 45 technical officials.

Sundaran, who clinched the top spot today, lifted 113kg in snatch and 136kg in clean & jerk for a total of 249kg. His effort in snatch won him the gold and a silver in clean & jerk.

Guru Raj of Karnataka, meanwhile, settled for the silver in 56kg men's category with a total lift of 243kg (103+140). His performance in clean & jerk helped him bag a gold in that section.
 

The bronze medal went to Esakkiraj of SSCB for an effort of 239kg (106+133).

In the 48kg Women, Usha lifted 73kg in snatch (silver) and 96kg in clean & jerk (gold) for an overall 169kg to win the first position.

Manalisha Sonowal of Assam and Ng Soniya Chanu of Police bagged the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

While Manalisha lifted 168 (73+95), Soniya's overall total was 162 (72+90).
