A Europe-bound boat that sank while carrying hundreds of migrants, killing at least 170 of them, has been lifted from the bottom of the sea.

An Associated Press reporter says a crane vessel lifted the boat today. It is widely believed that dozens more migrants may have drowned after they were trapped at the bottom of the boat when it capsized.

Dozens of families and friends whose loved ones are still missing waited anxiously at the port in the coastal town of Rosetta, wanting to take their bodies for burial.

Around 160 people survived Wednesday's sinking. Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said the tragedy was "unnecessary," and yesterday called on Egyptians to join his government to tighten control of Egypt's porous borders.
