Exuding confidence that his team Sunrisers Hyderabad will make it to the IPL play-offs, swashbuckling West Indian all-rounder Darren Sammy has said the side is gelling well and will get better as the tournament progresses.

"We have not performed at our best but we are peaking at the right time and by the time we qualify for the play-offs, we might be playing the best cricket and we will then eye the next stage," Sammy told PTI in an interview.

Sammy, who retired from Tests after being replaced by Denesh Ramdin as the West Indies Test skipper, revealed the mood in the Sunrisers camp is upbeat.

"We are working well as a unit. The team players have gelled well and are performing to the best of their ability. And hopefully we will get better as the tournament progresses," said Sammy.

West Indies T20 skipper Sammy brushed aside the point of two captains having trouble working with each other. Sammy, who is working alongside skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the Hyderabad camp, firmly believes that cricket is a team sport and not about individuals.

"For me it's not difficult to play under somebody. I can adapt to any situation. I remember playing with Kumar Sangakkara last season. And he had no problems sitting in the dug out as skipper and then happy with Cameron White incharge. So it's all about the team and not about individuals," said Sammy.

Focussing entirely on limited-overs cricket now, Sammy said he is enjoying IPL.

"I am having a great time in IPL. I am fit and will devote all my energy to limited-overs cricket," said Sammy.

Always an optimist, Sammy does not take his Test retirement negatively and said that now he will get to spend more time with his wife.

"The long Test tours always kept me away from my wife. Now I will get enough family time and that is good for me personally. And I think my best years are ahead of me. I have improved as a player especially in one-day cricket," concluded Sammy.
