Supply of substandard chikki has been stopped after complaints about its quality, Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde said here today.
She was responding to a debate in the Assembly on action taken against contractors supplying substandard chikki to schools in Adivasi-dominated areas.
A report has been sought from zilla Parishad officials over the quality of chikki, she said.
Munde had been accused of irregularities in procurement of items worth Rs 206 crore including chikki, a sweet savoury. It had also been alleged that chikki, meant to be distributed among tribal students, had traces of clay. It was also alleged that the purchase of these items was done in violation of rules.
